International. A survey conducted in the UK by the Dulux brand, belonging to AkzoNobel, revealed that seven out of ten people do not know that the paint can be reused.
Perhaps it explains the alarming statistic that there is enough unused paint on sheds, garages and closets in Britain to paint the iconic white cliffs of Dover 4,000 times.
The eye-opening study goes on to show that one in three of the forgotten cans are half full, with an estimated 50 million litres of unused paint. Interestingly, an overwhelming 92% of respondents would likely pass unwanted paint for use by those in need.
What exactly is the reason why organizations like Community RePaint were created? For the past quarter century, Dulux has been sponsoring Community RePaint schemes across the UK. Designed to give painting a new life, they have helped transform the lives of more than five million people who have benefited to date.
"A simple can of paint has the potential to transform many more lives beyond the four walls for which it was originally designed," explains Kathryn Ledson, Dulux's Marketing Director in the UK. "We know the positive impact color has on people's lives and during our 25-year partnership, Community RePaint has transformed the lives of five million people through color."
Adds Martin Pearse, Community RePaint Network Manager at Resource Futures: "Every bit of reused paint makes a difference. Working with Dulux over the past 25 years, we have seen the transformation that affordable painting can bring to charities, communities and people in social need across the UK.
