Latin America. Under the theme Productivity and Sustainability, the report provides the performance of activities in the three dimensions of sustainability – economy, environment and society.
Prepared in accordance with the requirements of the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), the content addresses strategic issues, such as sustainability, innovation, financial results and corporate governance, as well as environmental management practices and the relationship with stakeholders – employees, customers, suppliers and society.
"With a focus on growth, the year's efforts focused on identifying opportunities to make our customers more sustainable with BASF products and solutions. Through digital tools, the company presents a new way of acting in the markets and is closer to customers and also to medium and small companies, "says the senior vice president of Chemicals, Performance Products and Sustainability, Antonio Lacerda.
Examples include CasaE, an eco-efficient house that was renovated in 2017 with a focus on the digital and sensory experience; Suvinil, which presents a full digital journey to the consumer, from the choice of colors to the purchase of ink online; and, in addition, AgroStart, which supports startups to take advantage of and consolidate their businesses in the agricultural market within a period of up to 10 months.
Under various initiatives, also described in the report, in 2017 BASF received 25 awards throughout South America for its performance in innovation and sustainability, granted by customers, press and different institutions. Among them are the Environmental Performance Award from CLB Tecnológica (in Peru) and Guia Exame de Sustentabilidade, Época – Empresa Verde and Valor Inovação (in Brazil).

Innovation - BASF has innovation as one of its main strategic pillars and, in 2017, it was first recognized as the most innovative company in Brazil in one of the most important awards in the country, the Best Innovator ATKearney.
Investments - Announcements of acquisitions of part of Bayer's seed businesses and Solvay's integrated polyamides business also marked BASF's year. The transactions will add knowledge from highly specialized teams and complement BASF's portfolio options for agribusiness and engineering plastics.
Social commitment - BASF has five shared value initiatives and, through the connect to transform public call, supports 11 social and environmental impact projects in different countries in South America. With a focus on science and environmental education, employability and protection of natural resources and biodiversity, the projects contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
