United States. Since May 3 and for the rest of 2018, Sun Chemical announced that it will celebrate its 200th anniversary.
"Beginning with the inspiring legacy of Lorilleux and Samuel Morris in the early 1800s, Sun Chemical has brought 200 years of color expertise, innovative technology and a consistent commitment to quality and service to our customers," said Rudi Lenz, Sun's president and CEO. "Having held nearly 10,000 trademarks worldwide and more than 3,000 patents granted in various global jurisdictions in its history, Sun Chemical is proud to produce tailor-made solutions to meet the individual needs of our customers."
Sun Chemical said it has helped transform the printing industry by leading the way as the first to develop UV inks, water-based inks, pigmented flexographic inks and flexographic inks for polyethylene films. Sun Chemical was also the first to create the color process ink system in 1906, now commonly known as CMYK printing.
The company claims to be a pioneer in the development of the production of solutions for the newest presses of the time, including rotary tin lithography, offset lithography, typographic printing, flexography and rotogravure.
Sun Chemical has been manufacturing pigments since 1907. Today, the Performance Pigments Division offers a wide range of pigments, effects and preparations for the coatings, cosmetics, plastics, inks and specialty markets. Continuous innovation in the new color space and the supply of unique colors and effects in a variety of existing and new markets, has enabled tremendous growth globally.
With the acquisition of the company by DIC Corporation in 1987, Sun Chemical became the truly global company it is today with growth in the Latin American and Middle Eastern markets and the formation of the Advanced Materials division, which offers composites, polymers and materials application to broad markets.
