Mexico. Dürr is building a paint shop in Mexico for the BMW Group that meets the requirements for Industry 4.0 connected production. This ultra-modern plant featuring Dürr's first integrated smart factory concept is being built in San Luis Potosi.
Dürr supplies the complete paint shop: from the pre-treatment and electro-coating processes to the spray booths with the application technology and furnaces. The wastewater treatment plant, the water deionization system and the ventilation of the store are also included in the scope of services provided by Dürr. The respective processes are designed around the consistent integration of intelligent solutions.
In the first stage, the paint shop is designed for a capacity of 35 vehicles per hour, with the option to increase performance to double this capacity later on. The PT/EC area is designed to accommodate 60 vehicles per hour from the start. BMW will use its integrated, fully automatic and tested paint process at this plant, which eliminates primer and drying phase.
In terms of the design of the paint shop, Dürr features a simple industrial building with no intermediate levels along with multifunctional warehouses with high-rise storage technology. This concept offers the advantage of classifying vehicles with elective access, eliminating the need for an additional conventional painted body shop.
A total of 30 EcoRP E/L133i robots of the third and latest generation ensure an efficient paint application in the Facilities of San Luis Potosí. Robots can be operated on a rail that extends up or down the top layer and on the transparent layer lines. They are used as log openers and for exterior and interior painting. For the first time in North America, the new Dürr paint robot with cloud-enabled control is being used.
The plant is scheduled to begin operations in San Luis Potosi in August 2018. Before production starts, Dürr is thinking about efficient maintenance and impressive ease of use: the EcoDocu electronic documentation system allows direct access to all plant-related data via QR codes. order of spare parts.
