Brazil. The company allnex has announced the expansion of its plant located in Ponta Grossa to include the production of the selected amine resins Cymel, Cyrez and Setamine. With this increased capacity in the region, allnex becomes a major large-scale multinational producer of amine resins in South America.
Ammin resins are industrial thermoset cross-linking agents for solvent- and water-based coatings. This company's cross-linking agents have been used for more than 50 years in metal, wood, and rubber coating applications, including OEMs, kitchen cabinets, metal food and beverage packaging, metal construction products, tires, and metal finishes in general.
Originally, the plant was owned by Águia Química, one of the largest manufacturers of alkyd and acrylic resins in Brazil. In 2015, allnex acquired Águia Química and continued to produce the alkyd and acrylic resins at the headquarters. "As Brazil is the largest market for amine resins in South America, we are pleased to now have the local capacity to better support our customers in the region," the company's statement reads.
"When we acquired Águia Química, it was always in the plan to expand the production of allnex products," said Tracy Roop, Regional Business Director for the Americas, allnex. "Our customers in the region needed to be more competitive and, by having a local producer, they could avoid the high tax and tariff costs that come with importing. In addition, they can rely on a consistent, high-quality product that they expect from us, but by condensing the supply chain, they now get that product in a much shorter period of time."
