International. Hempel announced the launch of its new versatile activated zinc primer, which combines corrosion protection, at the level of an inorganic zinc silicate, with the benefits of applying an epoxy.
The product identified as Hempadur Avantguard 860, is specifically designed to protect steel structures in moderate to severe corrosive environments. It is the first of its kind, specifically developed to overcome the problems experienced with the application of zinc silicate primers, without compromising corrosion protection and increasing productivity.
In response to general industry concerns about the curing times and application properties of zinc silicates, Hempel's new product, with a repainting interval of just one hour, offers drying at least four times faster than zinc silicate-based coating systems. Highly flexible and versatile, this new coating can be applied year-round and at temperatures up to 14°F / -10°C, and without minimum relative humidity restrictions.
Oriol Osso, Group Product Manager, Energy, Hempel A/S commented: "At Hempel we constantly strive to better meet the needs of our customers. Asset owners in harsh environments demand the highest quality in corrosion protection. At the same time, applicators want a product that helps increase productivity. Hempadur Avantguard 860, based on Hempel's patented activated zinc technology, offers all of this. We have further developed our innovative Avantguard technology to reduce curing times and this saves time for applicators and ultimately asset owners."
