International. Emerald Kalama Chemical said it completed the start-up of its $40 million expansion at the company's headquarters in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
The full-fledged expansion increases the company's global capabilities, flexibility and manufacturing capacity of Purox B benzoic acid, Kalama benzaldehyde and many additional products, such as Kalama hexyl cinnamic aldehyde (HCA) and Kalama amyl aldehyde cinnamic (ACA).
The additional operations in Rotterdam support the company's strategic vision to sustain a global position in benzoic acid, benzaldehyde and derived products such as HCA. The project not only significantly expands the capacity of these products, but also enhances Emerald's global footprint and its backward integration into key raw materials.
While the initiative focused on increasing capacity at the Rotterdam operation, Emerald has made other key investments over the past 24 months in the US, Netherlands and UK to increase capabilities across Emerald's portfolio, improving the supply chain and logistics. And giving customers the added benefit of dual production sites for key aroma chemicals such as HCA.
Edward Gotch, CEO of Emerald Kalama Chemical, confirmed that the newly expanded Rotterdam facility is now fully operational after a successful commissioning and is producing the highest degree of purity of benzoic acid available on the market, with a minimum test of 99.98 percent.
