International. Evonik reported that it has invested in expanding its smoked silica capabilities in Antwerp, Belgium. The production complex is scheduled to operate in the summer of 2019.
Typical applications of these special silicas, which Evonik markets under the name Aerosil, include coatings and paints, modern adhesive systems, transparent silicones, as well as high-performance non-flammable insulating materials.
"This investment is a good fit for our strategy to focus more on the various specialty chemicals businesses and gradually create a more balanced portfolio," says Christian Kullmann, Chairman of the Executive Board of Evonik.
Silica is part of "Smart Materials", one of Evonik's four strategic growth engines, with above-average market growth and margin potential. "With this investment in the low-cyclical silica business, we are following our growth course and consolidating our position as a leading global supplier."
