International. BASF has announced that it is expanding its production of automotive coatings in North America with investments of close to US$40 million over the next two years. The investments add capacity to the company's production plants in Greenville, Ohio, and Tultitlan, Mexico.
"These investments reflect our continued growth in the market and underscore BASF's commitment to developing a sustainable production platform that provides customized coating solutions," said Chris Toomey, senior vice president, North American Solutions, BASF.
The increased water-based coating capacity in Tultitlán and the electrolytic emulsion coating capacity in Greenville allows BASF to continue driving innovation through the production of automotive coatings. Water-based coatings are paint products of low volatile organic compounds that give vehicles their color and e-coats are the primer layer applied to vehicles to prevent corrosion.
"BASF is a process and product innovator. We pioneered water-based technology as part of our commitment to social responsibility and environmental protection," said Frank Hezel, Vice President of BASF Coatings Mexico. Our additional capacity positions us well to continue our innovations to serve our automotive coatings customers."
