Brazil. Representatives of the Coalizão Embalagens group delivered to the Minister of the Environment, Sarney Filho, a partial report with the results of their actions related to compliance with the National Solid Waste Policy.
Formed by 28 business entities in the sectors that produce and use packaging, including Abrafati (Brazilian Association of Paint Manufacturers), the group signed in 2015 a sectoral agreement in which it commits to objectives related to recycling and efficient management of solid waste.
The report shows that actions were recorded in 422 municipalities, reaching 51.2% of the population. Actions involve supporting the structuring and work of cooperatives, as well as the installation, maintenance and structuring of voluntary distribution points (ENPs). The paint industry played an important role in these results, acting through elongated recycling for the proper disposal of steel packaging and in accordance with the ANCAT (National Association of Truckers and Recyclable Materials) for plastic, paper and cardboard.
The minister valued the work, noting that the objectives of the agreement have been met, despite the crisis facing the country in recent years. "The work carried out by all the sectors gathered in the Coalition is serious and has yielded concrete results. The paint industry has done its part and will continue to invest in awareness campaigns and in the creation of structures that promote recycling, so that post-consumer packaging has an appropriate destination," said Dilson Ferreira, EXECUTIVE CHAIRMAN of Abrafati.
