BASF reported that at the end of 2016 it completed the acquisition of Chemetall de Albemarle, a company in the surface treatment business, thereby expanding BASF's Paints division to expand its coating solutions product portfolio.
BASF combines its expertise in chemistry and paint applications with Chemetall's market expertise in surface treatment. The combined companies will benefit from each other's infrastructure and access to markets. By leveraging the competencies of both companies, BASF expects superior growth and innovation capabilities.
"We are giving a warm welcome to our new colleagues. The acquisition of Chemetall allows us to significantly expand our market. By combining the expertise and innovation power of two global market leaders, we will accelerate innovation and make our customers even more successful," said Markus Kamieth, President of BASF's Paints Division.
Chemetall develops and manufactures customized system solutions and technology for surface treatment. Its products protect metals from corrosion, facilitate forming and machining, allow parts to be optimally prepared for the painting process and ensure proper adhesion of the coating. These chemicals are used in a wide range of industries and end markets, such as automotive, aerospace, aluminum finishing, and metal forming. Chemetall's 2015 sales were $845 million.
