Solvay is building a Technyl polyamide compounding center in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, that will have an initial annual capacity of 10,000 tons.
This new plant is expected to enter into operations in the third quarter of 2017 to serve the growing automotive and consumer goods markets in the region and the Americas as a whole.
Mexico is the second largest manufacturer of automobiles and commercial vehicles in the Americas, and is in the seventh position worldwide, with an annual production of more than 3.5 million units in 2015. Additionally, many important players from the consumer goods and electrical equipment sectors are located near the chosen location, offering new opportunities for Solvay.
"This new plant will help us support our rapidly expanding Technyl polyamide business in North America, expanding our current capabilities," said Vincent Kamel, president of Solvay Performance Polyamides. "Many of the world's leading automakers are located in the region. Which makes it an ideal base from which to serve both local and U.S. markets and contribute with our solutions to cleaner mobility."
To minimize investment costs and time to market, Solvay has partnered with Chunil Engineering, one of its largest customers. Solvay plans more investments to serve this growing market.
