The move of a $10 million research center in Strongsville, Ohio, has enabled AkzoNobel to transform its largest energy consumer in North America into one of the smartest and most efficient energy.
Completed in November 2015, the company's new Strongsville Technology Center is only one-third the size of the old location. Designed to use less than one-third of natural gas, electricity and water, the facility has been recognized worldwide under the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) green building certification program.
The headquarters also received an innovation award from the City of Strongsville's Economic Development Authority. The honor was awarded to recognize both the innovative products being developed on site – such as BPA-free coatings for beverage cans – and the new facility itself.
