Leverkusen-based materials maker Covestro reported that it has set itself another ambitious sustainability goal: The company wants to halve its energy consumption per tonne of manufactured goods by 2030 relative to a 2005 baseline.
Richard Northcote, Covestro's Chief Sustainability Officer, announced the commitment at the Global Energy Efficiency Forum in Washington DC, where Covestro joined the recently launched 'Energy Productivity 100' (EP100) campaign.
The campaign is part of The Climate Group, a non-governmental organization with members, including pioneers from business, politics and society, who are working together to reduce emissions on the planet. The companies participating in the EP100 have committed to demonstrating their role as leaders in energy efficiency, to increase their energy productivity – in other words, increase economic output from the energy they use – and thus pave the way to a future of clean energy supplies.
Covestro is one of the first players to join the EP100 initiative and is waiting to be seen by other companies as a role model.
