Predicting promising colours in car design is a challenge faced every year by designers in the BASF Coatings division. The overarching theme for this year's 65-color collection is "Parallax," a concept in which objects appear displaced or change when viewed from different angles. The two competing views that shape our modern world are: the fascination of the virtual world and the yearning for honest self-expression.
BASF says that globally, the ambiguous relationship between the virtual and the physical world is visible in car color palettes: synthetic shades, metallic blue, silver and white represent the trend towards the digitalization of everyday life.
On the other hand, chromatic colors and natural tones demonstrate a contradiction - a search for authentic experiences and emotions, especially in urban areas. The innovative effects of pigments that allow two or more colors to combine along with urban metallic tones will enrich the color portfolio of tomorrow's cars.
