Corrosion damage to reinforced concrete structures costs an estimated $20 billion a year in the U.S. alone, and this figure is expected to grow to $500 million each year as existing infrastructure continues to age. The use of galvanized reinforcing steel is a solution to this growing problem.
For that reason, the American Galvanizers Association (AGA) and the International Zinc Association (IZA), in collaboration with eleven major galvanizers, announced the launch of a galvanized reinforcement website, a brochure focused on this market, and a technical service center.
The website (www.galvanizedrebar.org) has a wealth of technical information related to the specification and design of galvanized rebar, as well as performance and cost data. An FAQ section provides answers regarding the topic while the Standards section provides an overview of the global standard specifications for zinc-coated reinforced steel.
The site also features case studies from around the world with decades of proven corrosion protection performance, including the Boca Chica Bridge in Key West, Florida, the Sydney Opera House, the National Theatre in London, and the New York Bridge.
The publishing section includes downloadable publications with a wealth of information.
