Following an investment of US$100 million, Total officially opened production of its new high-purity specialty fluid facility in Bayport, Texas.
The hydro-dearomatization (HDA) plant in Bayport, the second in the world, will produce a range of 40 special high-purity fluids for use by customers including the paints and coatings industry, and printing inks.
With an annual production capacity of 250 KT, and ideally situated to supply the largest markets in the world, bayport's facility will also produce biodegradable synthetic fluids for on- and off-shore drilling in accordance with the company's commitment to using clean drilling fluids for exploration and production operations.
"Our new operation in Bayport illustrates Total's commitment to our business in the United States," said Philippe Boisseau, member of Total's Executive Committee and President of the Marketing & Services Division. We will work closely with the refinery in Port Arthur, which will provide several of the raw materials needed to produce the special high-purity fluids our customers want and need, as well as with Total's Polyethylene plant in Bayport with which we share the space."
