AkzoNobel has developed a new ultraviolet transparent coating technology with which vehicle body shops can now reduce their energy costs by up to 80%.
The technology reduces drying time to just 12 minutes without baking – providing a significant increase in productivity, in addition to potential energy savings compared to traditional brewing processes.
"Our latest innovation in UV refinish technology paves the way for an accelerated procedure for body repairs," said Niels den Heeten, premium product manager in AkzoNobel's Vehicle Repainting business. "Because Autoclear UV has no need for baking, it means valuable cabin space can be freed up for more major repairs."
According to the company, another advantage of the new technology is that it offers body shops an advantage when it comes to the repair of hybrid and electric vehicles. This is because "cold cured" UV products eliminate the risk of exceeding the temperature range of batteries. The technology is also compatible with the latest composite materials used in vehicles.
