Evonik launched a new development of raw materials for the paints and coatings sector, it is a high-efficiency dispersing additive.
According to the company, the new product is efficient in three ways: First, it increases the pigment load, which simplifies the grinding process. Secondly, it can be used for all types of iron oxide, thus reducing the number of dispersing additives needed - a significant difference from additives based on polyacrylate salts. Third, it closes the price/performance gap for many more expensive polymer additives.
TEGO Dispers 747 W has been specially developed for concentrated water-based iron oxide in architectural applications.
The additive combines the advantages of electrostatic stabilization with those of steric stabilization. As a result, this provides durable pigment stabilization for a high level of color intensity uniformity, even when stored for long periods of time. In addition, the additive reduces the viscosity of the concentrated pigment. This allows the concentrated pigment to absorb more, reducing the amount of concentrate needed to cover a given surface area.
"The demands for covering power and color intensity are constantly growing in architectural applications, and this increases the demands on the dispersing additive used," explained Daniel Brünink, global marketing director for decorative coatings. "The additives used so far do not stabilize the formulations properly. But thanks to TEGO Dispers 747 W, formulators now have a cost-effective solution for architectural applications."
