United States.
There are currently about 2,500 fewer decrepit bridges in the country than there were a year ago. Still, nearly 59,000 bridges are officially classified as structurally deficient. Corrosion is one of the factors that directly affects these structures.
This is according to an analysis of the U.S. Department of Transportation's bridge inventory database conducted by the American Road & Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA).
But the 58,600 bridges that were part of the new list are in need of repair, and there are consequences that come with their decayed state. One of them is the need to impose weight restrictions. This will not directly affect the average driver, but it can have an impact on trailer truck routes and, perhaps, buses and delivery trucks. That can cause delays and delays can ultimately cost the average consumer money.
The ARTBA said nearly all of the 250 poor bridges crossed by heavier vehicles are on urban roads, particularly in California.
