Evonik Industries announced that it plans to build a new production line for special polyamide 12 (PA12) powder in Marl (Germany) with a double-digit investment volume in millions of euros. The new plant, which is scheduled to come online by the end of 2017, will increase the CURRENT annual capacity of the PA12 Group by 50%.
"The planned investment in the new plant represents the next step in our growth strategy. Our intention is to consolidate Evonik's leading position as a supplier of high-performance polymers based on polyamide 12 and to utilize the growth potential of new application areas," said Dr. Ralph Sven Kaufmann, Chief Operating Officer of Evonik.
This type of raw material is used, for example, to coat metals from household appliances such as dishwasher baskets, as well as in the production of automotive and medical technology, and as mats and structural agents in coatings.
Evonik also anticipates a significant increase in demand in tool-free production, especially in the 3D printing sector. "We project attractive market growth . The new production line in Marl will meet the growing demand for PA12 powder products in the long term to support the growth of our customers," said Dr. Noel Rettig, Chairman of evonik's Resource Efficiency Board of Directors.
