As a measure to address current market conditions, Dow Performance Monomers, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, has announced the closure of 20% of the acrylate capacity at its Deer Park Operations headquarters in Deer Park, Texas.
In addition to reducing capacity, other measures taken by the company will include optimizing structural and response costs and exploring co-producer supply contracts.
"We are taking these actions to address the impact of acrylates around the world to further align the acrylate production business to business priorities: providing downstream business needs for growth and supply to those customers who value the long-term and reliable delivery and supply of acrylate," said Todd Prey, director of global business of methacrylates and acrylates. "Compiling these actions will deliver business impact, both in the short and long term."
It is worth mentioning that acrylics are used in a variety of applications, including adhesives, coatings, inks, plastics and super absorbent products.
