International. BASF revealed that it is strengthening its global pigment production network with two new investments. At its headquarters in Nanjing, China, the company has increased its production capacity of high-performance diketopirrolopirrol (DPP) pigments. In Ludwigshafen (image), BASF will expand its capabilities for the production of blue pigments by autumn 2016.
The brightly coloured and weather-resistant DPP pigments, which are marketed by BASF under the name Irgazin, are, among other applications, used for automotive, industrial and powder coatings, paints and inks, as well as for plastic applications. By expanding its capabilities in Nanjing, BASF has responded to the growing demand for high-performance pigments, especially in Asia-Pacific.
At its plant in Nanjing, which started operating in 2013, BASF has started the production of various DPP pigments, mainly for the Asian market. With its global production network for DPP pigments, which includes locations in all regions, the company is able to supply pigments worldwide that meet standardized specifications.
At its headquarters in Ludwigshafen, BASF will expand capacities for the production of blue pigments, which will be available from autumn 2016 onwards. Copper phthalocyanin reddish pigments which, in addition to other blue and green pigments, are based on the same chemistry, are sold by BASF under the brand name Heliogen and are characterized by their solidity properties. In addition, blue pigments stand out for their versatile applicability including plastic coloring, printing applications, as well as industrial and automotive coatings.
