International. Solvay announced that it is reinforcing its commitment to sustainable chemistry, providing solutions to the planet's challenges, with new ambitions that anchor the variety of its sustainable development aspects in its growth strategy.
"At Solvay we are driven by confidence in progress, promoting science and concern for responsibility. The challenge of more sustainable development is an opportunity for us to invent the world of tomorrow," said Jean-Pierre Clamadieu, CEO of Solvay.
Among its objectives, Solvay expects to reduce the CO2 intensity of its operations by 40%, i.e. its greenhouse gas emissions by the added value of the euro. To achieve this ambitious goal, Solvay will intensify its SolWatt energy efficiency program, continuously optimize its industrial processes, develop clean technologies and increase the share of renewables in its energy production and supply. Moreover, on January 1, 2016, Solvay will apply an internal price for CO2 emissions at €25 per tonne, to take climate challenges into account in its investment decisions.
In addition, the company plans to generate 40% of revenue with solutions related to sustainable development challenges. Halve the number of occupational accidents. Raise employee engagement to 80% after 75% in 2015. Double the number of Solvay employees involved in social projects.
