Spain. The Ministry of Health, through its Directorate-General for Public Health and Consumer Affairs, informed consumers that the European Consumer Product Alert Network issued a notification in relation to the product "finger paints", under the framework of legislation regulating the safety of toys.
Different brands were put on alert because they present a risk due to the presence of certain heavy metals -such as, for example, lead, cadmium or arsenic-, in concentrations higher than those allowed by the regulations; as well as, in some cases, the presence of molds or yeasts has been verified.
The competent authorities shall then locate and withdraw from the commercial market all products identified as dangerous, and therefore cannot be placed on the market. Similarly, the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports collaborates in the withdrawal of those units that may exist in the educational centers of the region.
The regulator assured, however, that the risk of symptoms of toxicity appearing is only significant if quantities much higher than those established as safe in this type of products and, of course, those of habitual use are ingested. Finally, the General Directorate of Public Health and Consumer Affairs urges consumers to return to the supplier of all alerted products that may be available at home or in any other.
