China. As a general contractor, Dürr is building a paint shop for Beijing Benz Automotive Co,Ltd (BBAC) at its headquarters in Beijing.
Dürr had already won a contract from the German-Chinese automotive joint venture in January 2013 for the construction of a paint shop just five kilometres away. This plant is currently being started with great success.
The experience of the first project ensures synergy in the planning and execution of the new project. Using largely identical project teams on both sides creates the best conditions for an easy and efficient process. BBAC is based on the Integrated Painting Process (IP2) that has been tested and tested at Mercedes-Benz. This process eliminates the primer application stage and the corresponding furnace, which reduces the complexity of plant distribution as well as energy consumption.
Starting in the area of PT/ED, great importance is attached to sustainability. That is why the Ecopaint RoDip rotation immersion process is used, not only for pre-treatment (PT), but also for electro immersion (ED). As the entire body of the car is rotated, there is no need for sloping sections at the entrance and exit to the immersion tank. Not only does this save a significant amount of ground space, it also consumes less energy and fewer chemicals due to the lower volume of the tank.
In this way, RoDip not only lowers unit costs, but at the same time offers the best possible protection against corrosion through an optimized process of immersion, flooding and drainage. Every year, more than 10 million cars worldwide are painted using the immersion coating process.
