Mexico. Axalta Coating Systems presented for the second consecutive year the Axalta Special Science Award, within the framework of the Mexiquense Science and Engineering Fair 2015, organized by the Mexican Council of Science and Technology (COMECyT).
"For Axalta Coating Systems, sustainable and innovative solutions are key to success. We are very proud to continue collaborating with the government of the State of Mexico, the public education system and ComecyT to promote research in our country," said Zerene Kahan, Director of Corporate Affairs for Axalta in Latin America.
Berenice Pérez and Tupak Hernández, from the Technological University of Nezahualcóyotl, received recognition for the project: "Treatment of soils contaminated with total petroleum hydrocarbons (HTP) by the biopile method" in the field of natural and environmental sciences. The fair aims to promote scientific and innovation projects among students of upper middle, technical and higher level of the State of Mexico.
The winners of the Axalta Special Science Award earned a 15-day stay at one of Axalta's three coatings development plants in Mexico. During this period this group of students will be able to learn and be an active part of the industrial and technological processes that are carried out in the creation of Axalta coatings.

In this case, we are very motivated to continue learning to develop the technology of a more sustainable future," said Tupak Hernández, project leader.
The projects submitted for the award were evaluated based on the criteria of innovation, creativity, social impact, applicability and teamwork by a panel of judges made up of experts in the fields of research and development, human resources, law, corporate affairs and operations.
