Brazil. On September 21, the campaign "Não vou pagar o Pato" (I will not pay the duck) was launched against the creation and increase of taxes proposed by the national government.
The launch took place at Fiesp (Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo), which leads this initiative, and which includes the participation of the Brazilian Association of Paint Manufacturers (Abrafati) and numerous other associations, federations and unions of agriculture, commerce, services and industry, which gives the movement a national dimension.
The campaign consists of several actions, including a manifesto collecting signatures from across society in order to pressure the government not to promote further tax hikes at this time of crisis in Brazil.
"Fiscal adjustment is necessary, but it must be done through spending cuts and not through tax increases," said Paulo Skaf, president of Fiesp.
"The productive sectors are firmly against the increase in taxes, which further harm economic activity. Measures in this direction could have a strong impact on the costs and competitiveness of companies, which are currently facing a very difficult environment," adds Dilson Ferreira, Executive Chairman of Abrafati.
