United States. The Dow Chemical Company revealed that it plans to complete a decongestion project at its Freeport, Texas facility (pictured), to increase glycidylmethacrylate (GMA) capacity in the second quarter of 2016.
The wide use of GMA, a versatile monomer for specialty coatings and resins, has put an increase in demand on the product, squeezing the market.
"Demand for GMA continues to grow, and decongestion will provide much-needed capacity to help us meet and exceed the needs of our customers," said Kate Glasser, Dow's global business director for monomers. "The additional capacity will expand our ability to help our customers develop high-performance coatings that benefit from the dual acrylic and epoxy functionality of the GMA."
With chemical resistance and weather resistance, GMA improves the quality and performance of automotive and powder coatings, radiation-curable coatings, water-based resins, industrial and protective finishes, hardware appliances and finishes, adhesives and plastic modifiers.
