United States. The American Chemistry Council's (ACC) Center for the Polyurethane Industry (CPI) announced that Honeywell's Solstice liquid blowing agent won the 2015 Polyurethane Innovation Award.
The award for this company, selected from three finalists, was recently announced during the closing session of the 2015 Polyurethanes Technical Conference in Orlando. More than 1,000 professionals from the polyurethane sector attended the conference.
"Our finalists this year brought more than technical breakthroughs – they delivered an inspiring reminder about the limitless potentials that polyurethane materials have," said Lee Salamone, senior director of IPC. "We applaud Honeywell for winning the award and thank them for continually exploring the limits of what is possible using today's best knowledge and technical capabilities."
The winning product is a special formulation designed to reduce global warming potential (GWP) and significantly improve energy efficiency, while maintaining non-ozone-depleting characteristics.
The other finalists were Dow Chemical's Vorastar 7000, a spray elastomer representing a new class of hydrophobic, finished alcohol polymer resin that can be formulated as spray-applied polyurea coatings; and Novomer's Converge rigid polyisocyanurate foam, which represent an optimized material that allows foam manufacturers to process this foam with traditional processing equipment and conditions while benefiting from the properties derived from polypropylene polyols.
