International. American Airlines is undertaking a complete modernization and rebranding of its aircraft fleet and selected AkzoNobel Coatings Aerospace to provide the paint system and technical know-how to assist in the brand's new image.
The fleet makeover should incorporate the paint of more than 600 aircraft with Aerodur 3001/3002 Base Coat/Clear Coat, which offers a high-gloss finish with easy coverage and quick responsiveness.
The new look and feel is enhanced by a full-body mica finish. The depth and radiance of this specially finished coating creates a glossy effect that reminds passengers of the classic metallic appearance of the aircraft.
Three aircraft, a 737-800 and two 777-300 is, have already been painted, with a schedule of works extending until next year, in anticipation of finishing ten aircraft per month.
