International . Buildings and vehicles can be easily covered with a solar cell coating thanks to a spray designed by Mitsubishi's chemical division, in which the coating is sprayed onto the chosen surface.
The cells use carbon compounds that solidify when dried and can generate electricity after exposure to sunlight. Compared to conventional solar panels, this coating will be lighter and more flexible, although it would have an energy efficiency of 10% compared to the 20% reached by the panels.
Mitsubishi is betting on improving this technology to reach 15% performance by 2015 and use the film, which would be less than 1 millimeter thick, in a prototype solar car.
