The International Committee D01 of ASTM Paints approved a new standard in the application of anticorrosive treatment with zirconium, to achieve a suitable application that achieves the desired protection and without wasting product or money.This standard, called "Test Method for Weight Determination of Zirconium Treatment" ASTM D7639, will use fluorescent X-ray instruments that will provide qualitative and quantitative data about the metals on which the treatment was applied, on the production line or in the quality control laboratory.
According to Christelle Petiot, coating product manager at Oxford Instruments Analytical, U.K., the standard teaches users the precision that can be achieved by following a simple procedure and using the right instruments. Now, the next step for the Committee will be to develop methods for the application of other treatments such as chromium and titanium.
