BASF paralyzes ethylene cracker

Germany. The chemical manufacturer BASF announced that due to low demand it will begin in mid-April and for three months the shutdown of the smallest of its crackers in Ludwigshafen, Germany, which annually has a capacity of 220 thousand metric tons of ethylene (raw material for paints).

Currently, five production lines are paralyzed at that site, and at the same time another 60 lines operate at a lower capacity, which means that BASF reduced its production capacity globally by more than 25%.

The clerk's employees will be transferred to other production plants.
