The German company Bayer Material Science added two new products to its range of wood and real estate coatings which meet environmental requirements. The Bayhydrol UV XP 2690 and 2687 will look to meet the demand for coatings with the Waterborne UV system for a market that has grown steadily over the past five years. "We developed bayhydrol UV XP 2690 specifically for outdoor wood applications," said Jan Weikard of Bayer MaterialScience. Coatings based on this polyurethane dispersion are best known for their remarkable climate resistance, which was confirmed by a study by the Fraunhofer Wood Research Institute (WKI). The result of the study also showed that when wood is used outdoors it can withstand the elements for eight years, before requiring repainting.
Bayhydrol UV XP 2687 is recognized for its outstanding grain accentuation and adhesion to all types of woods, even if they contain oil. The polyurethane emulsion has a high solids content, which allows the thickest films to achieve this in a single application. This is due to its excellent strength properties and high degree of hardness, it is also suitable for clear coats and can be formulated for spray and roller applications.
