Colombia. The Autonomous University of the West of Cali, obtained a patent of invention for 20 years granted by the Superintendence of Industry and Commerce for the creation of a team for corrosion - erosion tests.
The equipment allows testing on different types of materials to measure the useful life of an element, evaluate new materials, and select materials and coatings resistant to corrosion and / or erosion.
The team was developed in 2005 by Nelly Cecilia Alba de Sánchez, director of the Gcim Group (Research Group in Materials Science and Engineering); Héctor Enrique Jaramillo Suarez, research professor at the Department of Energy and Mechanics; Gabriel Armando Terán, Young Colciencias Researcher in 2005; and Selwin Andrés Angarita, who at that time was a student of Mechanical Engineering.
The project was called "Effects of corrosion-erosion with multilayer coatings W/WC and CNx/ZrN2".
"This team serves industry, research and academia. It allows to determine the wear of the materials by corrosion – erosion, depending on the use that is being given to them. It differs from other models found on the market, because in a single process corrosion and erosion can be identified; it has a horometer which allows you to measure the level of wear in terms of time," explained Nelly Cecilia.
