International. Wacker developed a new copolymer binder for water-based intumescent coatings that protect steel structures in the event of fire.
The technology offers pronounced foam and expansion and long-lasting stability that are coupled with improved adhesion and strength.
With this binder, Class F120 fire-resistant coatings can be developed (heat protection for up to 120 minutes). This development makes it possible to formulate coatings with low solvent content or without solvents.
Applications range from pots and pans for furnaces, to tubes and parts of machinery and plants. It can be used to modify organic polymers and create systems that resist up to 200°C; or as a single binder, it withstands temperatures of up to 500°C.
