Argentina. The laboratory of the National University of Litoral (UNL) is carrying out a study with a group of researchers to generate non-toxic red pigments. The idea seeks to allow a more comfortable handling, reduce prices and be able to replicate the same color several times.
With this new development, the compounds would allow to create more intense colors, tuning them into a range ranging from yellow to an intense red. However, factors such as the cost of the reagents needed for synthesis as well as the safety of the process are points to improve in this new technology.
The research approach seeks the development of pigments for ceramic applications that have a high thermal stability, that is, that withstand high temperatures during firing.
In addition to giving color in ceramic materials, these pigments also offer anti-pollution characteristics that can destroy molecules in water or air thanks to the surface of the particles that combines with radiation, generating chemical reactions that can convert those contaminants into substances that impact in a lesser way.
