International. A new spray coating with silicone nanoparticles that repels heavy liquids and oils by creating a strong contact angle was developed in the United States by the company NeverWet.
But it's not just about liquids. As reported by the company on its website, this product can repel corrosion, bacteria and ice, so it could be applied in advanced technology projects thanks to the fact that, in addition, it withstands high pressures.
"It's a challenge to enter the coatings market. People have been using the same material from the same suppliers for a long time. It's very novel, and when you start thinking about it, you can think about how transformative the technology can be," said Andy Jones, president of Ross Nanotechnology, a subsidiary of the company that developed NeverWet.
One of the tests done to this new technology was the coating of an iPhone with the spray, and then immersed in water for 30 minutes. The phone continued to operate normally during the time it was underwater and even after it was taken out.
The technology is patent pending, but according to its developers it could be used on any surface including clothing, footwear, buildings, metals, technological elements, among others.
