Colombia. The growth of the oil industry in Colombia, and the recent trend towards the exploitation of heavy crude oil motivated the Colombian Corrosion Association, Ascor, to focus the themes of the XI National Congress of Corrosion and the II International Congress of Integrity towards issues of interest to the sector.
This was stated by Quilyam Casallas, president of the Association, who also specified that the purpose of the event is to analyze phenomena such as atmospheric corrosion, integrity in the gas and oil industry, biomaterials, corrosion at high temperature, tribology, marine corrosion, corrosion in concrete and applied electrochemistry. Both congresses will be held in parallel during the next 4, 5 and 6 May, at the Industrial University of Santander, in Bucaramanga (eastern Colombia).
Casallas added that with the aim of strengthening internationalization and the exchange of knowledge, this year the first Ibero-American Forum on Corrosion and Protection will also be held, which has the support of the Ibero-American Association of Corrosion and Protection, Aicop.
As a last novelty, the technical course "Corrosion Analysis in the Petrochemical Industry" will be taught, which will be in charge of Dr. José Chacón-Nava, senior researcher and academic at the Center for Research in Advanced Materials, S.C. in Chihuahua, Mexico, where he also serves as Coordinator of Failure Analysis and Non-Destructive Tests in the Department of Composite Materials Integrity.
