Brazil. The Brazilian Chamber of Foreign Commerce (Camex) recently published Resolution No. 91 that reduces for one year the import tax quota for titanium dioxide from 12% to 2%. The resolution applies to a quota of 95 thousand tons. This decision is in addition to other conquests of the chain of paints led by Abrafati with the purpose of exonerating some essential raw materials for a production. The exemption in construction materials, linked to the other incentives of the government, has brought great contributions to the growth of civil construction, mainly in social housing.
Depending on the strong demand from these segments, the current quota will be sufficient to meet the needs of the paint industry and other users of the product. "We will accompany, together with the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Development, Industry and Commerce, as well as with the members of Camex, the evolution of the current demand and use of the quota throughout this semester and we will present a request for an increase before the 95 thousand tons are consumed," said Dilson Ferreira, executive president of Abrafati.
