Tax reduction helps the industry

altBrazil. Thanks to the proposal made by Abrafati, the Brazilian Association of Paint Manufacturers, together with Secex, Foreign Trade Secretariat of the Ministry of Development, Industry and Commerce, the federal government reduced the tax rate for the import of titanium dioxide.

The reduction of the tax, which was from 12% to 0, was included in the list of TEC exemptions (Common Exyerna Tariff) of Mercosur. This measure will be applied for a quota of 95 thousand tons, enough to meet 100% of the necessary imports into Brazil.

This proposal began in August, after several ministries approved it and in February the process continued when the project was presented to the inter-ministerial commissions: the technical commission and the Camex (Chamber of Foreign Commerce) where all the ministers who gave their approval are located.

Dilson Ferreira, executive president of Abrafati, explained that this is an action of the association aimed at seeking the reduction of the tax on some raw materials necessary in the industry. "Previously we had obtained a reduction in vinyl acetate monomer (VAM), and now we have a more favorable decision in relation to titanium dioxide," Ferrerira said.

The Executive President of the Association also said that the reduction of the tax will benefit some key sectors for the development of the country such as civil construction, the automotive industry and large infrastructure projects.
