Mexico. Through nanotechnology, a group of specialists developed a chemical substance that can encapsulate biological molecules that cause allergies and diseases, according to the institution.
The researchers from the Autonomous University of Nuevo León (UANL) explained that the so-called active coating is a liquid with nanotechnological components with biocidal activity that can be applied on different surfaces such as tables, desks, vents, among others.
This substance will be able to absorb, cover and even eliminate allergenic bodies, which are the particles that cause discomfort to the respiratory system.
The research has been in development for about ten years.
The leader of the research, Antonio García, commented that "any surface that is exposed to the environment can serve as an 'active surface' for the elimination of pollen and avoid allergies, and germs that could cause some effects on human health are eliminated."
Another challenge for the team was to develop a "living" material that could remain on surfaces and trap microbes. "The challenge was always that, when working with a material that disperses on a surface, the potential for germ removal was not inhibited due to the presence of a polymer matrix that stabilized at that base," he said.
