Researchers are using this feature to create new coatings. They are incorporating active nano-materials into polymeric systems. These coatings can be easily applied as paint or varnish.
The process is highly adaptable and suitable for the processing of very varied nano-materials. An additional advantage is that small amounts of substances can be bonded in ecological, water-based plastic systems that emit almost no VOCs.
These coatings can be applied directly without first requesting a layer of primer – experts refer to this property as "direct-to-metal." In addition, the layers prevent oxygen from reaching the metal and therefore protect against corrosion.
