Brazil. After the polymerization plant in Brazil was damaged by a fire in November 2014, BASF decided, due to unfavorable market conditions, not to rebuild the plant and will close polyamide production at the Anchieta plant in San Bernardo del Campo (SP), at the end of 2015.
BASF announced that it will serve its polyamide customers in South America through its global production network with plants in Freeport, Texas; Caojing, China; Ludwigshafen, Germany and Antwerp, Belgium.
The Anchieta plant produces polyamide 6 and polyamide 6/6.6 polymers and composites, focusing on film and monofilament applications, as well as engineering plastics.
About 90 employees will be affected by the site closure. BASF will offer an internal package of vocational rehabilitation and training of employees in the search for new employment opportunities.
