United States. A
former PPG Industries employee has been arrested and charged in federal court in Pittsburgh for stealing trade secrets, the FBI announced on its website.
"Theft, whether manual or through cyber intrusions, diminishes our competitive advantage in technology and product development and deprives citizens of economic opportunity," said U.S. Attorney David Hickton. "We will aggressively pursue intellectual property theft regardless of who commits the crime."
The criminal complaint alleges that defendant Thomas Rukavina (62) retired from PPG in July 2012. Already in June 2014 Rukavina approved proprietary and confidential information to J.T.M.G, a glass company based in Jiangsu, China, which specializes in glass for cars and others. Past secret information includes PPG's manufacturing features for the windows, which are made of synthetic plastics and used for high-speed transportation, including aircraft.
The law provides for a maximum total penalty of up to ten years in prison, a fine of $250,000, or both.
