Spain. Lubrizol Corp.'s Performance Coatings business reported that it has completed a major project to expand capacity and increase manufacturing efficiency at its acrylic solvent production facility in Sant Cugat, Barcelona.
In the last two years, Lubrizol made significant investments to automate two independent production lines for the highly specialized solvent acrylic resin. This automation helped achieve the goal of creating efficiency and flexibility while improving quality and increasing capacity. The investment includes a new loading system for monomers and solvents, new premix and initiation tanks and their related dosing systems; new filters, two new bulk resin ducts, and a semi-automatic packaging machine.
This update also allowed the integration of these production lines in the plants into the Distributed Control Systems. "These improvements were instrumental in ensuring a highly reliable unit, meeting our customer demand and quality expectations and achieving our high-performance goals," said Jordi Fernandez, process engineer at Lubrizol.
