Colombia. After an alliance with the Eafit University of Medellín, and with the engineering company, Indisa, the company Incolmotos Yamaha already has a new plant of paints for plastic parts for its motorcycles, which will improve the care of the environment and productivity.
It is an electrostatic painting system for painting plastic parts, which will save around 40% of paint during application.
According to Engineer Carlos Andrés Arias, Head of Paint Plant at Incolmotos Yamaha "The new plastics paint plant is the result of the need to continue growing as a Company, to continue contributing to the growth of the region, the country and the sector".
According to company information, the new plant has the capacity to reduce by 70 – 80% the large particles that contaminate the finish of the piece, which has decreased rework. Now the plant allows painting 12,000 motorcycles using 23% less paints, compared to the 10,000 motorcycles that could be painted before the new facilities were available.
As for the care of the environment, the use of electrostatic paint reduces waste such as volatile organic compounds and paint that is exposed to the environment, since the plant reaches a coverage of 50 and 60%.
