The projection in 2014 for the chemical industry in net sales was US$156.7 billion, according to estimates by the Brazilian Association of the Chemical Industry (Abiquim) and specific associations of the segments of chemical products for industrial use: paints, varnishes and coatings; pharmaceutical products; fertilizers; dry cleaning, perfumery and cosmetics; pesticides; soaps and detergents, and artificial and synthetic fibers.
The estimated revenue for the year places the Brazilian chemical industry as the sixth largest in the world. Chemicals should represent 9.67% of the Brazilian manufacturing industry.
With this result, the sales of Brazil's chemical industry should be 0.3% higher than in 2013, which were US$156.2 billion. Among the segments, the highlight continues to be the use of industrial chemicals, which is estimated to close 2014 with a turnover of US $ 69,700 million. But the chemicals trade deficit closed the year at $31.6 billion, as Brazil imported $46 billion in chemicals and exported $14.4 billion.
