Germany. Evonik Industries reported that it expanded its production capacity of polyamide 12 at Marl Chemical Site by 5,000 metric tons, thus increasing the security in supply of its vestamid high-performance polymer material. In addition, preparations have begun to increase the production of Vestosint polyamide powder.
For the expansion of production, Evonik indicated that it has developed an improved conventional process for the production of polyamide 12. They also made significant progress in the development of a free-route butadiene and CDT.
The company, for almost 50 years, has operated an integrated plant for the production of polyamide 12, from butadiene, all the way through all polymer precursors. Originally a batch operation, the production plant was expanded to include continuous plants in 2000. The new expansion follows a policy of constant adaptation to the needs of the market in recent years. Powder capacities have also been increased.
